Things to do

If you are into hiking or photography, you will love your time in Cinque Terre. But if you’re after a white sandy beach, you might be disappointed.

Cinque Terre is not a place to go for a beach vacation. The beaches are small and paved and there are no umbrellas or umbrellas if you go to Monterosso al Mare. Although Monterosso is very crowded. In fact, this was our favorite village when we visited Cinque Terre.

If you’re looking for things to do in Cinque Terre, we recommend a boat trip, a hike on the Cinque Terre Trail, and some local cuisine! However, remember that 2-3 days in the area should be enough. Check how much you need in Cinque Terre.

A unique view

The benefits of visiting Cinque Terre: Reasons to visit

Now that we’ve covered all the reasons why you should visit Cinque Terre, let’s look at a few reasons why you might want to skip it.

Cinque Terre

The crowd

Cinque Terre is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy. Villages can get very crowded, especially in summer. If you are looking for a place to relax and escape the crowds, Cinque Terre is not the place for you.

That said, you can avoid the crowds by staying in Corniglia, the smallest Cinque Terre village. Located in the middle, you get all the peace and quiet. It can get busier during the day, but chances are you’ll be in other villages.

It can be expensive

Cinque Terre is a bit more expensive than other parts of Italy. The villages are small, and there are not many cheap hotels and hostels. And the restaurants in Cinque Terre are not cheap either. If you’re on a budget, you can skip the Cinque Terre or stay in La Spezia.

Lack of night life

Cinque Terre is a very quiet and sleepy place. There are no night clubs and bars in the villages. If you are looking for a place to party, Cinque Terre is not the place for you.

In fact, Cinque Terre is a good destination for couples. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, Cinque Terre may be the perfect place for you.

It’s not family friendly

Cinque Terre is not the best place to visit if you are traveling with small children. There are no playgrounds or activities for children in the villages. And hiking trails can be a bit challenging for small children.

During our trip to Cinque Terre, we saw many families with young children. Note that all hiking trails have lots of stairs and the Corniglia train station is at the bottom of the hill, meaning you’ll have to climb lots of stairs to get to the village at the top.

Final verdict: So is Cinque Terre worth a visit?

All in all, Cinque Terre is a beautiful and unique place worth visiting if you are interested in hiking or photography. The villages are charming and the scenery is charming.

However, Cinque Terre can be crowded and expensive, so it may not be the best place to visit if you’re on a budget or traveling with small children.

We visited Cinque Terre in June 2022 and we loved it. As we prefer to avoid the crowds, we stayed in Corniglia, the quietest and smallest town of the Cinque Terre. It made our time in Cinque Terre even more special.
